Twitter Has Just Become The Official Platform For Crypto

Twitter is the platform for crypto.

According to the latest reports, Twitter is planning on bringing crypto tipping to all of its users very soon, with an initial IOS rollout followed by an android release in the coming weeks.

Users will be able to connect 3rd party apps such as Cash App, Patreon, Venmo, Chipper, Bandcamp, Razorpay, GoFundMe, PicPay, and more to Twitter to be able to receive tips denominated in cryptocurrency.

For now Bitcoin is the only option, but perhaps we will see ETH, ADA, XRP, DOGE, SHIB, SOL, and a whole host of other cryptocurrencies and digital assets making the cut in the future.

Users will also reportedly gain the ability to authenticate NFT’s on the popular social platform, although that feature is still in the works.

Here’s more on the story:

One Twitter executive states via Coin Telegraph:

“We want everyone on Twitter to have access to pathways to get paid,” said Crawford. “Digital currencies that encourage more people to participate in the economy and help people send each other money across borders and with as little friction as possible — help us get there.”

In addition to the linked services, Twitter tips are available to use through the Bitcoin (BTC) Lightning Network, which sends payment using the Strike app, or by adding a BTC address directly to one’s profile. “Twitter takes no cut,” according to Crawford.

Blockworks added:

Users will be able to tip with bitcoin through the Lightning network, a layer-2 payment protocol known for its low transaction fees. Twitter will not collect a fee for transactions made over Tips.

While earlier speculation included talks of an ether tipping option, Twitter’s Thursday announcement did not mention any cryptocurrencies other than bitcoin.

Twitter also announced plans to expand into the non-fungible token space and create a platform that allows users to authenticate and display NFT collections. No formal plans have been outlined yet.
