Ethereum Making Its Way To Discord Soon?

Jason Citron seems to have dropped a bombshell…

The Discord C.E.O. has hinted at Ethereum integration into the platform via Metamask and Wallet-Connect.

Users will now be able to send each other direct payments inside the popular instant chat app, and this could potentially open up an entire microcosm of the crypto economy.

Not everyone was too thrilled with the announcement, as we will see later, but here is the cryptic Tweet sent out by Citron yesterday:

The Block Crypto had more details:

Citron’s tweet came as a reply to Packy McCormick’s tweet, who is the founder of Not Boring Capital and Not Boring newsletter. McCormick tweeted the latest issue of his newsletter in which he wrote that Discord could play web3 given its reach of 150 million monthly active users.

Apparently, in August, Discord ran a survey asking users about a “Discord-native crypto wallet,” meaning every Discord account could come with a crypto wallet.

The internet was abuzz with coy users, but not everyone was so thrilled.

There seems to be a palpable minority that is in stark opposition to the integration of Ethereum payments into the Discord platform.

Some users cite environmental concerns, and others were quick to shut those concerns down:

Citron’s Tweet was in response to Packy McCormick, Coin Telegraph quotes McCormick:

“Imagine a human website. Imagine a place where dank memes flow like honey. Imagine a place where potatoes thrive. Imagine a place where humans and bots live in harmony. Imagine, in other words, a place like Discord.”
